Pawan Shankar who is hailed for his eponymous role in the critically acclaimed serial Siddhanth on Star One, is an MBA in finance from Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Ghaziabad. An alumnus of Allahabad's St. Joseph's College, Shankar graduated with a Gold Medal from Allahabad University.
Interestingly, in addition to having a formidable academic background, he also excelled as a sportsman. A top ranked player among sub-junior and junior boys in Table Tennis and a former national cadet champion, Shankar represented Uttar Pradesh in 17 national-level tournaments. Prior to trying his multi-faceted talents in Mumbai, Shankar traversed the corporate world for about 4 years, working in companies such as Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd., Essar Cellphone, Hutch and ICICI Securities.
For sure, Shankar has an enviable acting career. He completed a course in acting from Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Lab, Mumbai and bagged the coveted Best Actor Critics Award in the Indian Telly Awards for his performance in Siddhanth, a serial that also received the best drama award in Hero Honda Indian Television academy awards. In addition, Shankar was nominated for the Best Actor category in Apsara Awards, which nominated the serial in the Best Serial Drama category as well.
Commenting on Siddhanth, senior film critic Subhash K. Jha once said, "Star One's Siddhanth is excellent…. Here's an actor [Pawan Shankar] who makes you stop chomping on your chapattis. He has underlined every gesture and effectively mirrored the exclusive performance." A review of the serial on mouthshut.com said, "The lead actor has done a brilliant job as the arrogant but charismatic lawyer." Another review proclaimed him to be "The most powerful male protagonist on Indian Television."
Shankar also received rave reviews for playing the role of Sanjay Apte, a trade union leader, in Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasman on Star Plus. "He appeared only in the first six episodes of Thodi Si Zameen, however his portrayal of the rebellious angry young man Sanjay Apte made a tremendous impact," said Subhash K Jha.
Till date, Shankar has worked as a model for more than 50 advertisements for top Indian and Multinational brands. He has also worked alongside Shri. Amitabh Bachchan in Reid & Taylor and Dabur Swas Amrit ads.
Undoubtedly, a great find of the Indian Television Industry, Shankar is one of the rare male actor in the Indian TV history who went on to do the second title role of VICKY in a TV series "Vicky Ki Taxi" on Real Channel after the title role of Siddhanth.
The last show which Shankar did as a Lead actor on TV was "KYA HUA TERA VAADA" on Sony, which became quite popular in metros and urban India. Shankar elegantly portrayed the dilemma and complexity of a married man who got entangled in extra marital affair.
Shankar did a negative role (cameo) for the first time in a TV show "GUDDAN TUMSE NA HO PAYEGA" concluded in December 2019.
Ajay Devgn starrer BHUJ: THE PRIDE OF INDIA, released on 14th August 2021 on Disney+ Hotstar. Shankar plays the role of Antagonist Mohammed Hussain OMANI in the film.
